Site Reliability Engineer

Nine Mile

Sydney, Australia

Nine Mile is an electronic principal trading firm focused on market making and arbitrage opportunities globally. Technology is at the forefront of our business, powering Nine Mile’s unified global trading platform, including exchange connectivity, market data infrastructure, and the micro-decisions required for our trading strategies.

Nine Mile’s scale and efficiency allow us to be nimble, responding quickly to market opportunities and regulatory changes, whilst ensuring we operate under a robust operational risk management framework.

At our heart, it’s our people that power Nine Mile, its strategy, technology & relationships. We are proud to have a team of highly motivated, intelligent individuals who strive to solve complex problems through creative, sophisticated technology, in an open, meritocratic environment.

The Role

As a Nine Mile Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll work at the front line of our trading systems — owning and evolving the infrastructure that powers our global operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own configuration management and IaC using Ansible and Terraform.
  • Own observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk — dashboards, alerting, and incident response.
  • Work with PostgreSQL and InfluxDB across our data platforms.
  • Support workflow scheduling and orchestration via Prefect.
  • Manage virtualisation and storage platforms (CEPH, VMware, KVM, Proxmox).
  • Support build, deployment, and developer tooling alongside C++, Java, C#, and Python engineering teams (Atlassian suite, Docker).

What You’ll Bring

  • Solid hands-on Linux experience, comfortable at the linux level.
  • Strong Python and/or Bash scripting; familiarity with a compiled language (C++, Java, C#) is a plus.
  • Proven experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar IaC tooling.
  • Working knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or equivalent observability tools.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL and InfluxDB.
  • Strong networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, routing, firewalls; low-latency networking exposure is a plus.
  • Experience with Docker and the Atlassian suite.
  • A genuine interest in financial markets or low-latency technology.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

The Culture

At Nine Mile, we operate in a highly competitive and dynamic environment. Our success depends not just on our vision, technology, or strategies, but on the people who execute them every day. We foster a culture that rewards open interaction, problem solving, creativity, and teamwork, where helping others is as valued as individual achievement.
